Samsung and Google Play Announce Music Partnership – Billboard

Samsung and Google have announced a new global partnership that will make Google Play Music the default music player and service on any new Samsung phone or tablet going forward. The deal, announced Friday, arrives on launch-day for Samsung’s new S8 line of phones and doubles the amount of songs that Samsung customers can upload and stream to Google play for free.

New Samsung phones will now also come with three months free of both Google Play Music and YouTube Red, and the music streaming service will be the go-to database for songs when Samsung’s virtual assistant Bixby launches later this Spring. “We’re thrilled to bring this special version of Google Play Music to Samsung customers anywhere, and we look forward to bringing the best music experience to your Samsung device,” said Elias Roman, product manager lead at GPM. “Together, we’re committed to delivering the perfect soundtrack to make your everyday moments better.”

The pricy S8 and S8 Plus ($750 and $850, respectively) are Samsung’s first major smartphones since the recall of its fire-prone Note 7 line. A recall of the Note 7 cost Samsung roughly $5.3 billion.
